Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 101 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start those conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

  1. Maybe you need to know something about classic jazz singing and scat. Some would say that the phrases and new words made up by jazz musicians (or anyone who regards the language as plastic, even kids who speak in slang) speak a different kind of sense than what is logical and calculated.
