Welcome to the blog for Prof. John Talbird's English 101 class. The purpose of this site is two-fold: 1) to continue the conversations we start in class (or to start those conversations BEFORE we get to class) and 2) to practice our writing/reading on a weekly basis in an informal forum.

Henry and June

Not sure about everyone else but with in the first 5 min of the movie I got a bad vibe from Anais. I was really annoyed when she lied to Hugo in the beginning about her and the man in the office "just kissing" . My dislike for her only grew more as the movie continued. However even though I believe Anais is out right wrong for her actions, I find Hugo to be very annoying in his own way as well. He seems VERY needy to be and more concerned about trying to be in control of the relationship (which he clearly is not) then making his wife happy.

  1. I believe Anais who in her mature days is still going through strong experiences, and those are lust and sex. I think she feels the necessity to satisfy her fantasies when she meets Henry and June. The three of them see the world in a different way. Adventures, art, literature, sex. ''Everybody says sex is obscene. The only true obscenity is war." and I believe this quote is true, however, I do believe that having that kind of possessive relationships is harmful to them.

  2. I also feel Anais wasn't really wrong lying with Higo because she had to keep good relation with hugo, if hugo knew about the situation may be he wouldn't like her anymore!

  3. As the movie goes along Anais seems to change from a somewhat innocent person(quiet and a little shy) into a person that is only trying to get what she wants. She uses sex to manipulate people and lies to almost everyone she knows. I also feel she is a person struggling to control her sexual curiosity and desires and seems a bit confused along the way about who she really wants.

  4. Although Anaïs is shy she is very sexually active with multiple partners and between both genders. While still married to Hugo she does it with Hugo, Henry, Eduardo, and June. This is the definition of not be loyal.
